UFC's Plans for World Domination
Date submitted: 19 October 2006
Author: Sean McClure
At the UFC 64 post fight press conference, UFC President Dana White fielded questions from the media about the fights, belt contenders, and title shots.  What was very interesting was that Dana responded to a reporter’s questions about taking the UFC overseas with a very direct and pointed response.

“We’re going international now.  We were working hard to build the sport here in the United States and now we’re going out, over in to the UK now.  We opened our office over there and we’re going international.  We’re going to be the biggest fight promotion in the world, we are now, but we’re going to be worldwide here in the next couple of years.”

The charismatic UFC President also went on to say, “We’re going to do five events in the UK next year and then we’re going to start creeping out in to Europe”.

The time frame for all of this he said, “about three years we’ll be global”.

After hearing this, one might think that the UFC is possibly countering the Pride Fighting Championships move to the United States.  While this may not be the case, Zuffa will at least attract more talent from other places than mainly just inside the United States.  If the UFC brand is successful overseas, this could be the biggest thing to happen to MMA since the UFC was seen for the first time on pay per view.  The bigger the organization is, the better the competition in the organization itself.  Exposing other fans worldwide to their product also means a better chance for wider acceptance of the sport and hopefully a unified fan base supporting it.  One good thing that could come of this is wider recruiting for the organization. Competition level has always been a stabbing point for hardcore fans and this may help improve the UFC’s standing there.
