The Japanese Connection: Bushido Considering -65kg Division

In Japan, many Pride Bushido fans think it is unfair that a fighter weighing 65kg could be expected to give away up to 8kg to another weighing in at the top of the -73kg category.

For example, the Pride: Bushido 12: Survival fight, between Hatsu Hioki and Jeff Curran. After the fight, Hioki talked about only fighting at -65kg in the future; a sentiment echoed by some other top level Japanese fighters.

There are plenty of opportunities for -65kg fighters in Japan, for example in Pancrase and Deep who both hold specific -65kg tournaments.

Listening to the fighters and fans, Pride Bushido’s producer has said that he is keeping an open mind about the possibilities of an -65kg division of Pride Bushido.
