Grove and Bisping Win TUF Season 3.
Date submitted: 26 June 2006
Author: InsideFighting.com
Kendall Grove and Ed Herman battled back and forth in the most dramatic fight of the night and Grove won a decision after three contested rounds in the middleweight final.

In the light heavyweight final Michael Bisping beat Josh Haynes badly and won by referee stoppage in the fourth minute of the second round.

As winners, both Grove and Bisping earned the promised six figure contract with the UFC, but just as was the case between Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar in the first TUF finale last April, there was a surprise in store for one worthy "loser".

For his stellar effort against Grove in the middleweight final, the UFC announced that Ed Herman would also receive a six figure contract with the organization, as well as a spiffy (ok, I'm jealous. Really nice and expensive is more like it) watch.

Haynes, for his part, showed resilience and probably more toughness than was good for him in his fight, and will likely appear again in the octagon. Although it seems improbable that he could do so at 170lbs as he stated he wanted to in his post fight remarks.

For Kenny Florian, one half of the main event on Saturday night, it was his third appearance on a TUF finale show.

His first came last April as a finalist in the middleweight division against Diego Sanchez.

In his new weight class of 155lbs, Florian looked much improved and was able to impose a textbook Brazilian jiu-jitsu strategy on Sam Stout.

The jiu-jitsu black belt Florian wasted little time clinching with Stout and taking him to the ground and positioning himself with a side mount on Stout.

Contrary to the over anxious flailing that many fighters seem to employ in similar circumstances, Florian stuck the cross side position with excellent control and didn't let Stout budge.

Florian patiently worked to achieve the full mount on Stout and it wasn't long until the uncomfortable Stout turned his back to the Boston fighter.

Bad move. Just as he did in his last fight against Kit Cope, Florian showed that he has some of the most polished finishing skills in the UFC and was able to get a rear naked choke on his opponent.

Florian now turns his attention to the rest of a burgeoning lightweight division with no shortage of would be title contenders waiting in line.
