UFC® Fans Can Access Content On Pay-Per-View or Subscription Basis; Stringent Security Measures Protect Against Content Piracy and Fraud.
San Diego, CA (May 24, 2006) - Entriq, a company that helps content providers realize new revenue streams from their digital content, today announced it has partnered with Ultimate Fighting Championship® (UFC®) to enable its new on-demand Web site. Launching this week, “UFC On Demand” (www.video.ufc.com) offers fans a wealth of content including live streaming, a library of downloadable UFC events, and preliminary-round fights that are not available for viewing anywhere else. Entriq is powering the digital store-front for the Web channel, and is providing all the back-end tools, including state of the art security measures to protect against content piracy and fraudulent access.
“As the fastest growing sport in America, the UFC is striving to satisfy the demand for state-of-the-art multimedia portals for our fans,” said Dana White, UFC President. “With Entriq, UFC On Demand offers radical new content on either a subscription or pay-per-view basis. By partnering with a company that manages the entire content distribution process, we can focus on our sport and growing the UFC brand.”
“UFC is the hottest ticket in sports right now and it is also a company that is doing everything right as it makes the leap into Internet TV,” said Scott Crowder, chief operating officer of Entriq. “Not only is it offering its fans a compelling and versatile content portal, but it has protected itself against the two greatest content distribution hazards: loss of revenue due to rampant video piracy and technology that becomes obsolete if UFC should choose to move content onto portable devices or IPTV platforms.”
UFC is making a strong market push for its new Web channel, which includes a wide array of live and on-demand programming, made available to fans under different pricing structures. Consumers have on-demand access to approximately 40 UFC fights at any given time, including preliminary fights not available anywhere else. In addition, the site will offer live streaming events, downloadable episodes of the Spike TV/UFC reality show The Ultimate Fighter®, and the ability to download files in either 700k or 1,500k file sizes.
A hosted solution, Entriq is providing UFC with the tools to effectively manage and monetize their digital content on the new Web channel. Specific features include:
• A comprehensive and graphically rich digital store with search functionality.
• Enhanced security features through additional fraud management and encryption layers on top of basic DRM.
• Both pay-per-view and subscription models for obtaining content.
• Extensive promotional capabilities such as gift certificates and discount pricing models.
• Geo-targeting services that restrict access to content to select geographies.
Entriq’s technology also integrates cross-platform capabilities that would allow UFC to easily expand its content distribution program to other channels (i.e., mobile or IPTV) in the future.
