Riggs Fails to make weight: UFC 56 main event now a non title bout
Date submitted: 18 November 2005
Author: MMA Universe

Joseph Riggs, who was scheduled to fight UFC Welterweight Champion Matt Hughes, has failed to make the agreed weight of 170 lbs.

After a series of efforts he managed to drop his weight to 172.5lbs, which is still two and a half pounds over the welterweight limit.

Hughes and Riggs will still fight each other in the UFC 56 main event but it will be a non title bout.

Riggs was said to be inconsolable at the situation.
