Legendary is a term that is sometimes misused in the MMA media but more than justified when referring to the Gracie family. For years The Gracie Family proudly upheld their reputation of being indomitable, then came Sakuraba


Kazushi Sakuraba is the Japanese fighter who smashed the Gracie legend wide open when he defeated Royler Gracie, Royce Gracie, Renzo Gracie and Ryan Gracie, in that order.


Sakuraba, who had earned the title “The Gracie Hunter”, wrote himself in to the MMA history books but there was always one Gracie that eluded him.


Rickson Gracie has always been revered, even among the Gracie’s. With a reputed record of somewhere in the region of four hundred Vale Tudo bouts and no losses, Sakuraba would have to take the head of Rickson to truly finish the job.


Until now that fight has always been something of the holy grail of MMA match-ups but following the shock departure of Kazushi Sakuraba to the ranks of K-1, it has become a possibility.


A source claiming to be close to Royler Gracie has reported that Rickson Gracie has accepted an offer from K-1 (rumoured to be in the vicinity of $3,000,000) and the fight will happen and soon! Rickson Gracie is said to already be training hard and is on murderous form.


It is believed that this fight could happen as soon as Sakuraba’s K-1 debut on October 9th or more likely on December 31st for K-1’s New Year’s Eve spectacular.
