UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar will be unable to fight Shane Carwin in the main event of UFC 108 on January 2, according to Heavy.com, likely leaving the traditional blockbuster event without a championship headliner.

Lesnar was to take on Carwin later this month in the main event of UFC 106: Ortiz vs Griffin 2, but was forced to postpone the matchup due to an extended illness, believed to be mononucleosis, that has prevented him from training for over a month.

The fight was then targeted for UFC 108, but with Lesnar still battling the illness and unable to train for the bout it will again be postponed, likely to UFC 109 on February 6.

UFC 108, which takes place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, features Cain Velasquez vs Antonio "Minotauro" Rodrigo Nogueira and Rashad Evans vs Thiago Silva. The pay-per-view event is also expected to includes Junior dos Santos vs Gabriel Gonzaga and Carlos Condit vs Paul Daley.
