After an injury forced Ricardo Almeida to withdraw from their scheduled UFC 106: Lesnar vs Carwin fight, Jon Fitch is now expected to rematch Thiago Alves at UFC 107: Penn vs Sanchez on December 12 in Memphis, Tennessee, according to MMA Junkie, which reports that the welterweight matchup is in the works, while Alves' original UFC 107: Penn vs Sanchez opponent, Paulo Thiago, will be booked for another bout.

In their first meeting at UFC: Ultimate Fight Night 5 in mid-2006, Fitch earned a second-round technical knockout of Alves.

Fitch reeled off a record eight-straight wins to begin his UFC career, but had his 15-fight win streak snapped with a unanimous decision loss to welterweight champ Georges St Pierre last August. The American Kickboxing Academy fighter has bounced back in 2009 with back-to-back wins over Akihiro Gono and Paulo Thiago.

Alves won seven-straight over the likes of Chris Lytle, Josh Koscheck, and Matt Hughes, but is coming off a unanimous decision loss to St-Pierre in July at UFC 100: Lesnar vs Mir 2.

The matchup joins BJ Penn vs Diego Sanchez, Kenny Florian vs Clay Guida, Cheick Kongo vs Frank Mir, and Paul Buentello vs Todd Duffee on the UFC 107: Penn vs Sanchez main card.
