Alistair Overeem vs "Mighty Mo" Set for October 17
Date submitted: 28 August 2009
Author: Jacob Camargo / FiveKnuckles.com

Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker first mentioned yesterday that Alistair Overeem would have a tune-up bout in October. Coker was right as Overeem will indeed compete in October and will face K-1 veteran Siala "Mighty Mo" Siliga at the Golden Glory: 10th Anniversary event, according to K1Legend.

Golden Glory has yet to announce if the Overeem vs Siliga heavyweight bout would be contested under MMA or K-1 rules.

Overeem is the current Strikeforce heavyweight champion, however, he has yet to defend his belt since winning it in November 2007. He was originally set to defend at Strikeforce's June event but was forced to withdraw due to a hand injury he sustained in a late night bar brawl.

Overeem was then set to fight Fabricio Werdum on August 15 but the lingering hand injury derailed his return yet again.

Overeem is unbeaten in his last five MMA bouts but hasn't fought since defeating Gary Goodridge at Shooto Holland: Ultimate Glory 10 - Battle of Arnhem last November. During his 10 year career, he has fought for such promotions as Rings, Pride and Dream. Overeem has finished 28 of his 29 career wins and he holds notable wins over the likes of Roman Zentsov, Sergei Kharitonov, Paul Buentello and Vitor Belfort (2x).

Siliga holds winning records in three combat sports, with stints in Pro boxing, MMA and a long successful stint in kickboxing. In his most recent MMA bout, Siliga lost to Semmy Schilt via first-round submission last December. Prior to the loss, he went 3-0 to begin his MMA career, with all wins coming by way of TKO or KO.

The Golden Glory: 10th Anniversary event takes place on October 17 and will feature longtime K-1, Pride and Pancrese veteran Semmy Schilt in the main event against a yet unannounced opponent. Also confirmed for the event, Alistair's brother Valentijn Overeem will face former WWE wrestler and Strikeforce veteran Daniel Puder in an MMA rules bout.
