Affliction Not Re-Signing Andrei Arlovski
Date submitted: 24 June 2009

Now that Andrei Arlovski's three-fight contract has been fulfilled with Affliction, the promotion has made it known that they will not work on a new deal with the former UFC heavyweight champion.

"No, we are not looking at that right now." said Afflicition VP Tom Atencio about re-signing Arlovski in a interveiw with Fighters Only Magazine."His contract has expired and right now we have so many fighters under contract that we are just concentrating on working with them."

Besides his subpar performances in his past two bouts, Arlovski also carries a hefty price tag at $750,000 for his first Affliction fight and an additional $1.5 million disclosed salary in his second fight, figures for his third fight have yet to be released.

Arlovski scored a TKO win over Ben Rothwell at Affliction: Banned last July, however, he would go on to suffer a knockout loss to WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko in his second fight with Affliction in January. In the opening moments of the fight, Arlovski was getting the better of the standup exchanges with Emelianenko until he went for a flying knee, which was promptly intercepted by an Emelianenko overhand right, ending the fight.

Arlovski then suffered his second straight knockout at the hands of Brett Rogers just 22 seconds into their heavyweight bout at StrikeForce: Lawler vs Shields on June 6. The bout fulfilled Arlovski's three-fight deal with Affliction due to an interpromotional loan between Affliction and Strikeforce.

The former UFC heavyweight champion was supposed to make his professional boxing debut on an HBO event on June 27, however, a medical suspension from the Rogers' knockout forced him off of that card.

Prior to fighting for Affliction, Arlovski went 10-4 in 14 fights with the UFC, with notable wins over the likes of Tim Sylvia, Vladimir Matyushenko, Paul Buentello and Fabricio Werdum.
