Dana White Fires Back at Tom Atencio
Date submitted: 14 May 2009

UFC president Dana White knows how difficult running a fight promotion can be. The UFC lost over $40 million from 2001 until "The Ultimate Fighter" made the promotion a hit in 2005.

That's why White is suggesting that Affliction VP Tom Atencio should focus on leading Affliction Entertainment than participating in a mixed martial arts fight.

"Let me tell you something: When I was $44 million in the hole, the last thing I was doing was leaving the office and going out to train for a joke of a fight," White told Yahoo! Sports.

"I was in the office and trying to find a way to make this thing work. Why would I waste one second of my second of my day worrying about this [expletive] guy? He should be worried about the millions and millions of his bosses, or his partners' money, whoever it is, that's he's burning. That's a complete joke."

Atencio, 41, is currently juggling fight promoting and training for a fight. He'll step in the cage against Randy Hedderick at the Prize Fight Promotions: Ultimate Chaos pay-per-view event taking place June 27 in Biloxi, Mississippi. Atencio has competed once before, winning by decision after three rounds at Total Combat 7 in Tijuana, Mexico in January 2005.

As for Affliction, the goal is for a Fedor Emelianenko vs Josh Barnett main event in August, but with nothing signed, Atencio has been hesitant to release any further information.

Atencio also made headlines last week when questioned if White would have actually fought Tito Ortiz in a boxing match as well as outright challenging White to a fight under MMA rules at any weight.

"At the end of the day, I stepped up and said I would fight Tito and he was a fighter who people cared about," White said to Yahoo! Sports. "But why would I fight this goof? He's neither a fighter nor a promoter. He's a [expletive] loser. That's all he is."
