Blue Springs, MO-- 35 year old Chris Cox says he lost his job with the school district as a counselor because of his passion for ultimate fighting. Cox, who is also the Head Assistant Wrestling coach at Blue Springs High School, says administrators put an ultimatum to him: Quit ultimate fighting or lose your job as a counselor. He refused the ultimatum. At the end of this school year Cox says he's out of a job.
Despite it's brutal nature, Cox maintains ultimate fighting actually makes him a better counselor, and helps him teach students to avoid fighting.
"Honestly I don't feel like I've done anything wrong," Cox said. "I can help kids that are in that situation because I do fight, and I know the repercussions. You know and I know how to do it and where to do it right," he added.
A school district spokeswoman had no comment and neither did the President of the school board.
Cox feels he's given his heart and soul to the district. He is a Blue Springs High graduate and won a state championship in wrestling his senior year. In college Cox earned academic and athletic all-america honors. He also has a masters in education.
