Rosi Sexton Signs with the Bellator Fighting Championships

Warrior Promotions Fighter Management are proud to announce that Europe's number one pound-for-pound female fighter Dr Rosi Sexton has signed a four fight deal with the US based Bellator Fighting Championships.

Rosi Sexton is the current Cage Warriors Female World Champion and trains out of SBG UK in Manchester, England. An experienced Grappler and Submission fighter, Sexton has nearly 10 years of MMA training experience and holds a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do.

Not content with the physical side of her talents, Rosi also holds a PhD theoretical computer science (Manchester), 1st class maths degree (Cambridge) and is currently studying to become an Osteopath.

Sexton, first made her name on the Cage Warriors circuit in the UK and most famously defeated the tough Dutch fighter Dina van Den Hooven in November 2005, just nine months after giving birth to her son Luis. After a controversial loss to Gina Carano in September 2006 (Carano weighed-in six pounds over the agreed weight limit) Sexton found herself in Russia just a few months later where she defeated the high profile Brazilian Carina Damm by submission.

Sexton picked-up two more wins in 2007 when she defeated both Windy Tomomi (By technical decision after the Japanese fighter suffered a horrific ankle bone dislocation in the second round of the fight) and Julia Berezikova (via armbar) in Bodog Fight action in Costa Rica and Canada respectively.

Sexton then spent time on the sidelines following Bodog's demise later that year, but was soon snapped-up by Elite XC in 2008, where Sexton defeated one of the pioneers of Women's MMA in the United States. In a closely contest Sexton was able to defeat Debi Purcell[ by decision despite having a considerable size disadvantage, in a bout which was broadcast live on the Showtime network in the USA.

Since then Sexton has been waiting for another opportunity to fight following the financial trouble that stuck Elite XC's parent company Pro Elite. As a result Sexton has focused on her regular work, her contributions to Fighters Only magazine and has also been involved in some preliminary work for the Ultimate Women's Combat show, which recently held try outs in the UK.

However thanks to her management team and their partners at Cage Warriors USA; Sexton will now fight again in the United States on the inaugural Bellator Fighting Championships show at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida on April 3rd. Sexton will face the American Top Team fighter and fellow BodogFight veteran Jessica Aguilar in the 120lbs weight category (Which will be Sexton's first time in this weight class).

Known for her fierce competitive spirit Aguilar comes from a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu background and trains with some of the best fighters in the world at the famous American Top Team gym in Coconut Creek, Florida. She started training in BJJ after moving to Florida and eventually found herself training at ATT after going to a grappling competition which was organised by the world famous group.

Although she is coming off a loss against long time rival Angela Magana at the 2009 Hook and Shoot / GFIGHT Grand Prix in January; Aguilar still remains a difficult proposition for Sexton, especially as the English star has taken this fight on late notice and in a different weight class. However the lure of fighting on this new and exciting show which will be televised nationally on ESPN Deportes should be enough motivation for both fighters to raise their game and show why Women's MMA has a place in this rapidly rising sport.
