Shamrock vs Shamrock to Finally Happen

It looks like the long awaited fight between Ken Shamrock and Frank Shamrock is finally going to happen.

For years - the pair have traded insults - now they may actually be getting into the cage together.

Frank Shamrock told ESPN.com:

"We've both signed a contract to fight each other. Ken is down with it. We talked about it two years ago, and we've agreed materially to fight. The fight has a cool hook. Brothers beating each other up. Everyone wants to see that."

Ken Shamrock was equally enthusiastic. He told ESPN.com:

"Will the fight happen? Absolutely. He's got a buttkicking coming to him. Everything I've learned, everything I have bottled up in me, is going to come out on him. I've still got love for Frank, but I'm angry at him."

EliteXC are also keen to get the fight on. Elite XC head of operations Jeremy Lappen said:

"They're talking about doing it and we're interested in the fight. It's a storyline everyone can relate to, Cain versus Abel."

Getting the fight on now makes sense for all parties:

Ken "The World's Most Dangerous Man" Shamrock, was due to take on “Kimbo Slice” Kevin Ferguson in Florida on Oct. 4 in the main event of Elite Xtreme Combat: CBS Saturday Night Fights 3. Coming off a defeat in London against Robert "Buzz" Berry, many saw this as the 44 year olds last shot at the big time. On the day of the fight, Shamrock was rolling with a training partner, and after taking a bump on the head, some scar tissue over his left eye opened up. He needed six stitches to close a gash, and the Florida commission declared him unable to fight. In the aftermath - he made this statement on his personal website

“I promise that I will make this up to all my fans. I know that there is nothing I can do about what occurred, but I plan to get back into the ring soon. I would like it to be against “Kimbo Slice”. Hopefully EliteXC/CBS will still be able to put a fight together. It’s is the right thing to do. The fans want it and I want it”.

A fight between Ken Shamrock and “Kimbo Slice” would be a very hard sell for Elite XC. When Shamrock pulled out of the original fight, Seth Petruzelli stepped up from the undercard to take on the Internet streetfighter in the main event. Petruzelli took Kimbo apart in just 14 seconds of the first round. It was not only Slice’s unbeaten record that bit the dust in Florida. Elite XC had built up Kimbo as the main attraction of their CBS network TV shows. Their second show, which did not feature Kimbo, suffered a significant dip in the ratings. With his aura of invincibility destroyed - the promotion are short of names that casual fans are familiar with.

Ken Shamrock and Frank Shamrock are names that are recognized by many people. Both have enjoyed illustrious careers in mixed martial arts. Although the fight would have little interest for most hardcore MMA fans, the family feud angle could create interest among casual fans.
