Tito Ortiz Close to EliteXC Deal

Former UFC light-heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz is on the verge of signing a contract with EliteXC.

Ortiz was cageside for Elite Xtreme Combat: CBS Saturday Night Fights 3. The free agent was interviewed on air about his current contract status.

Tito said:

"We're working really close with EliteXC and I'd say we're about maybe a week away from signing the deal”.

Since leaving the UFC, Tito has been the subject of much speculation. He is one of the most recognizable faces in MMA. He also has cross over appeal, due to his appearance on the Donald Trump show “The Apprentice” and his relationship with actress Jenna Jameson. EliteXC are desperately in need of a high profile draw after the 14 second destruction of their poster boy “Kimbo Slice” Kevin Ferguson.

If Tito were to ink a deal with EliteXC, one possible fight for him would be a rematch with Frank Shamrock. Shamrock defeated Tito at UFC 22: There Can Only Be One Champion back in 1999.
