Kimbo Slice Loses in 14 Seconds

Seth Petruzelli sensationally knocked out “Kimbo Slice” Kevin Ferguson in the main event of Elite Xtreme Combat: CBS Saturday Night Fights 3 at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida.
After original opponent, Ken Shamrock, was forced to pull out of the bout with a cut over his left eye, Seth Petruzelli stepped up from his scheduled preliminary fight against Aaron Rosas and took on the Internet streetfighting legend in the main event.
He took just 14 seconds of the main event to finish off Kimbo and leave the EliteXC marketing department with a big headache.
Many fans have been unhappy about the fact that a novice like Kimbo has been put at the forefront of the campaign to promote MMA on network TV. This was only his fourth official fight, and Petruzelli was able to expose his weaknesses. EliteXC may well regret their decision to throw so much of their resources behind marketing Kimbo.
Their last CBS card, which did not feature the bearded brawler, drew poor ratings. Now Kimbo has lost his aura of invincibility for casual fans- his popularity may well dip. |
