Shinsuke Shoji Retires

Shinsuke Shoji suddenly retired. On August 20th, Shoji notified Pancrase that because of "personal reasons" he has decided to retire from MMA therefore will not be able to compete in the King of Pancrase lightweight title fight scheduled for August 27th at Korakuen Hall.
As of the beginning of July, Shoji left his team KILLER BEE headed by Norifumi "Kid" Yamamoto, but continued training, even attending to the signing ceremony held on July 24th at Pancrase. At the time he was saying, "I am now just running and doing the weights alone. I haven't set up the environment with a mat and all. So I haven't sparred in a while. I want to find the place where I can train with other fighters soon as possible."
However, Shoji is now not only out of the title fight but also out of MMA, period. Pancrase did attempt to sign a replacement to face Koji Oishi for this title fight but now less than two weeks away from the show has decided to just cancel the entire fight, and now there is going to be a total of nine fights at this Pancrase show.
