Jason MacDonald Replaces Jason Day at UFC 88

Not even two weeks out from his riveting loss to Demian Maia at UFC 87: Seek and Destroy, "The Athlete" Jason MacDonald has been called upon to replace an injured Jason Day at UFC 88: Breakthrough in Atlanta.

This card change has yet to be officially announced by the UFC itself. MacDonald will meet Jason "The Punisher" Lambert who will be entering the cage at 185lbs for the first time in his career. The fight will be featured as an undercard bout.

Jason Day, who was hoping to rebound from his loss to Bisping in June, was reportedly forced off of the card due to an arm injury. His recovery time is not known as of now.

The UFC along with headliners Chuck Liddell and Rashad Evans will head to Atlanta to put on only the second show to be held at the popular Philips Arena venue. It’s been 11 years since the organization held an event in Georgia.

MacDonald’s exceptional ground skills were on display at UFC 87: Seek and Destroy this month when he battled jiu-jitsu wiz Demian Maia for three rounds before finally succumbing to a rear naked choke. "The Athlete," who was amazing in defeat, will look to rebound from that loss and jump back into the win column with a victory over "The Punisher."

Lambert, who has suffered back to back losses in 08, will look to rebound as well and avoid the dreaded third straight loss. His last W came in the form of a upset victory over Renato "Babalu" Sobral at UFC 68: The Uprising. Lambert "punished" Sobral with punches, knocking out the Brazilian in stunning fashion.

It should be interesting to see if the weight loss affects Lambert in his middleweight debut. MacDonald, who should push the pace, will definitely look to take Lambert to the ground and avoid those big punches.
