UFC President Dana White has a major heavyweight superstar on his hands. Brock Lesnar proved to be Ultimate Fight's "The Next Big Thing" in a dominant performance that saw him defeat Heath Herring by unanimous decision, 30-26, 30-26,. 30-26 at UFC 87: Seek and Destroy. The former University of Minnesota Lesnar, played well to a hometown crowd at The Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Lesnar came across like a mega-star as he blasted Herring right at the start of the first round with a punch that would make even the most cynical boxing expert proclaim "wow!" Lesnar's punch not only floored Herring, it's a highlight reel moment. Herring, a noted tough competitor who is a very experienced Octagon fighter, was lucky to have not been knocked out by the blow, and his left eye swelled shut almost immediately.
To put it kindly, Lesnar dominated the entire fight. While critics may point out he didn't demonstrate skills to finish an opponent off, the 2000 NCAA Heavyweight Wrestling Champion went back to his basics, grappling, and simply held on to his dominant position most of the fight. The crowd, of course, was going crazy for Lesnar. Everytime Herring would get to his feet, Lesnar went back to brawling, throwing vicious knees and doing everything to take Herring down and maintain total control.
Perhaps most impressive was Lesnar's speed, which for a man his size and strength is going to be something that anyone who steps into the Octagon with him is going to have their hands full with. Lesnar, who was dubbed "The Next Big Thing" by WWE Creative Guru and On-Air "Agent" Paul Heyman while they were both working for Vince McMahon's World Wrestling Entertainment, was the clear winner, and his across-the-board 30-26 victory doesn't even begin to tell the story of just how dominant the scary Lesnar was.
