Andrei Arlovski Switches to Boxing

For months, rumours rumbled on that Anderson Silva was going to meet Roy Jones Jr in a boxing match. That did not happen, but now, it seems that another high profile MMA star is about to switch to the sweet science.

According to ESPN, Andrei Arlovski, the former UFC heavyweight champion from Belarus, has been training for a boxing career under the tutelage of top trainer Freddie Roach.

Arlovski will first fight “Big” Ben Rothwell on the Golden Boy Affliction: Banned card on July 19th.

ESPN report that Arlovski is likely to make his professional boxing debut on Sept. 13th (HBO PPV) in the opening fight on the Casamayor - Marquez card in Las Vegas.

The switch is probably fuelled by frustration. After some less than stella performances, Arlovski was benched by the UFC and eventually forced out. With the perceived lack of talent in boxing's Heavyweight division - Arlovski may feel he has a chance to build a lucrative new career.
