Cage Rage Refute O'Donnell Rumours
Date submitted: 04 July 2008
Author: John O'Regan

There is "no shred of credibility" to rumours that Dave O'Donnell has left the Cage Rage organization, according to a company spokesman.

Earlier this week it was suggested that Mr O'Donnell had parted ways with the promotion he founded, with some suggesting that the departure had not been voluntary.

But Cage Rage co-promoter Chris Cordeiro, who was installed by ProElite shortly after it bought the promotion, laughed off the rumours when speaking to Fighters Only today.

"I don't know what they are talking about. I think it is something that just got spread by other promoters," he said.

"There is no shred of credibility to any of that. I don't foresee Dave being gone any time at all, unless an accident takes him from us!"

Mr Cordeiro also hit back at speculation that the Cage Rage promotion is in decline.

In recent months there has been noticeable cost-cutting and news that the promotion is to move from Wembley Arena has had online message boards buzzing with speculation that the promotion is on a downward spiral.

But Cordeiro says that the cutbacks are necessary simply to be more cost-effective, marking the end of an era of "limousines and five-day hotel stays".

"Right now I know people are talking bad about Cage Rage because they are used to a little more glitz and glamour, but it's a publicly owned company now so we have to be a little more accountable with the money we spend, that's all there is to it," he explained.

Cordeiro confirmed that Cage Rage will be using a smaller venue in the near future but revealed that the promotion will still be using Wembley Arena as well.

"We're at Wembley again before the end of the year and we have some dates booked for next year," he revealed.

Cage Rage "will still be the top show in Europe" and the use of a smaller venue in the short term "is just to be more cost effective" he added.

The next Cage Rage event is on Saturday July 12th at the Wembley Arena, London. Check www.cagerage.tv for more details.
