Jon Fitch Earns BJJ Black Belt

Number one welterweight contender Jon Fitch reveals via MMA.tv that he has earned his Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt from Dave Camarillo — the head instructor at American Kickboxing Academy.

Camarillo — also an experienced judo player — is a Ralph Gracie protege who has awarded just a handful of black belts as an instructor (six). Fitch will put his new status to the test against welterweight champion Georges St Pierre at UFC 87: Seek and Destroy on August 9.

“I received my Black Belt today from David Camarillo. I am his first student to go from white to black. It is a great honor for me to achieve this under Dave’s teaching. I did it in 4 and a half years and have to thank everyone that contributed. My team mates and all of the Jiu-jitsu students at AKA. Thank you all so much for your time and efforts.”
