Manhoef Smashes Sakuraba at Dream 4 in Japan

Kazushi Sakuraba ran into a Dutch buzzsaw on Sunday. Melvin Manhoef brutalized the Japanese legend at the Dream 4: Middleweight Grand Prix 2008 Second Round, as he put his strikes to perfect use in a dazzling effort that netted him a first-round stoppage at the Yokohama Arena in Kanagawa, Japan.

Manhoef dropped Sakuraba with a high kick and finished him off with textbook ground-and-pound in the night's featured bout. The 5-foot-8 wrecking machine has now delivered 21 of his 22 career wins by knockout or technical knockout. Manhoef has rattled off 16 victories in his last 18 fights, including five in a row. Not one of his past five opponents has survived the first round against him.

The 38-year-old Sakuraba saw his three-fight winning streak come to an end, as he was finished inside one round for the first time in nearly five years. One of Japan's most beloved mixed martial artists, his vaunted ground game was of little help.
