Paul Daley to Face Tough Slovenian in Comeback Fight
Date submitted: 05 June 2008
Author: Mick Bower

Cage Warriors have announced that a top European will be up against Paul Daley in his comeback fight.

Headlining the latest in the latest Rough House series at Cage Warriors: Enter the Rough House 7 on Saturday July 12 will be Pro Elite star Paul "Semtex" Daley. After a near four year absence from CWFC, he will face the unbeaten Slovenian Bojan "Zelva" Kosednar in his home town of Nottingham, England on July 12.

Daley is the current Cage Rage and FX3 Welterweight World Champion and is widely regarded as one of the best pound for pound fighters in Europe. A team mate of recent UFC signee and current Cage Warriors World Champion Dan "The Outlaw" Hardy, Daley has become a transatlantic star due in part to his charismatic persona as well as his devastating Muay Thai striking. and has shown repeatedly that he can stun his opposition from a distance or close up with his explosive left hook and fearsome ground and pound.

Just a month after his bone shuddering KO win over UFC "The Ultimate Fighter 2" veteran Sammy Morgan, Daley stunned the MMA world by retiring in February just days after he won the King of the Ring Kickboxing Title against former K-1 Max Europe Finalist Marius Buzinskas.

Daley's announcement, which was made first on the Cage Warriors forums started a whirlwind of speculation and caused a huge amount of debate on MMA news sites, magazines and blogs, as MMA insiders and fans alike were shocked by the young UK star's decision to quit whilst at the top of his game.

Daley remained tight lipped about his situation until announcing last month he would return to fulfill his own personal desire to fight in his home town of Nottingham, before fulfilling his contractual obligations to Pro Elite. Although cynics doubted Daley would fight at "Enter The Rough House" due to past disputes and withdrawals; Daley went out of his way to get permission from Pro Elite to fight at Cage Warriors on July 12 before returning to action in the United States later this year.

Daley will be keen to add to his 17 wins (which contain an impressive 13 wins inside the distance with 12 TKO's). Daley is also on a run of five straight stoppage wins in MMA competition which includes wins over UFC veterans Mark Weir and Duane "Bang" Ludwig as well as two breathtaking TKO's against Daniel Weichel and Sammy Morgan.

Bojan "Zelva" Kosednar is the current Kombat League 77kg/170lbs Champion and is a three time veteran of the World Freefight Challenge show in Slovenia, which has been featured on pan-European TV and is highly publicised in Slovenia due to extensive mainstream press attention.

Known for his good takedown defence, sprawl and brawl and aggression, Kosednar is a Judoka with a difference and has shown he has the tools and the ability to gut it out and win by decision, but can also use the kind of aggression that Paul Daley uses to bully foes around the cage. Already Kosednar's management team has said that Daley will have to destroy the Slovenian to beat him and are confident he can walk away from Nottingham with the victory.

Last time out Kosendar defeated the highly regarded, top five European based Welterweight Fabricio Nascimento at in a bout held under DREAM rules, which has only intensified rumours of the Slovenian Judoka fighting in Japan in the near future. What made this win more impressive is that Kosednar travelled to Italy where the Nova Uniao Italia star is based and revered by the Italian MMA faithful.

Kosednar claimed the victory by relentlessly attacking the BJJ Black Belt from the start and stubbing out the Brazilian's takedown attempts whilst unloading with a barrage of strikes when he could. The Slovenian continuously outworked Nascimento throughout the bout due to his superior cardio and aggressive striking which left the Brazilian needing medical attention after the final bell was rung.

On July 12 Kosednar hopes history will repeat itself again when he makes his UK debut against the vastly experienced Paul Daley, as he attempts to make another giant leap up the world rankings by defeating the Pro Elite contracted star in just six weeks time. Whilst Daley will be looking to return with a bang and another trademark KO, which will ease him back into another Elite XC show in the near future and catapult himself back into the spotlight.

In short this bout has all the makings of an explosive must see main event between two young, exciting and aggressive fighters.
