On February 26 2006 at the Saitama Super Arena, Japan. Pride FC staged Pride 31: Unbreakable, the first Pride event for the year 2006.
The co-main event of the evening was Mark Coleman the Pride 2000 tournament champion faced Mauricio Rua the 2005 Middle Weight Grand Prix Champion.
A match every one predicted Shogun would obliterate Coleman with strikes in the first round. However these predictions were quickly quashed as Coleman defended Shogun attempted submissions well then took Shogun down. Suddenly Rua’s elbow popped out as he tried to defend the takedown.
The referee noticed the dislocated elbow and called an end to the match at 00:49, R1.
The referee went to stop the fight but Coleman hurled the referee away, he wasn’t finished with the young Champion. But Murilo Rua the older brother of Mauricio Rua stepped in to the ring to protect his brother after the referee was also tossed away by Mark Coleman. Coleman said something to Ninja to provoke Ninja and other Chute Boxe members to step in and confront Mark Coleman.
Then all hell broke lose. Wandelei Silva threw a punch at Coleman but he ducked and members of Chute Boxe then repeatedly threw punches at Coleman. Coleman’s teammate Phil Boroni tried to protect his teammate during the melee.
In a post fight interview Mark Coleman said Chute Boxe’s actions where in the heat of the moment but had no ill feelings in their actions. But Mark also said he will fight Ninja, Shogun or Silva if Pride want him to.
