Brandon Vera: I Want to Be the Manny Pacquiao of MMA

Brandon "The Truth" Vera has been in the Philipines to drum up interest in his upcoming fight with Fabricio Werdum. His visit coincided with the announcement that the UFC will be seen in the country on the new sports channel: Balls.
Vera takes on Fabricio Werdum at UFC 85: Liddell vs Evans on June 14th at the 02 Arena in Greenwich, South East London, UK.
Vera is visibly proud of his Filipino roots. He declared that he wants to be the “Manny Pacquiao of MMA.” Pac Man's exploit in the boxing ring have made him a national hero in the Philipines. The nation grinds to halt whenever Pacquiao fights. The tattoos all over Vera's body attest to this pride he holds for his roots. He told the Manila Standard:
“I like the world to know more about the Philippines, how wonderful Filipinos are and how exciting our culture is.”
Vera is keen to bounce back from his first career defeat. He lost out on points to Tim Sylvia at UFC 77: Hostile Territory. He said:
“What can I say? It was really sad. That’s not the way I wanted to lose. I was thinking that if I’d lost it must be a totally bloody match and I get absolutely beaten up. But I just want to forget about it and move on. It was an ugly, unexciting contest but it happened and that was that.” |
