On the 17th of February Shooto organisers staged one of its biggest shows at the Yoyogi Stadium in Tokyo, Japan. An excellent event turned to be a nightmare for the organisers.
Towards the end of the show, Shooto Middleweight Champion Akira Kikuchi fought the challenger for his title Shinya Aoki in a fierce war, which ended with Shinya Aoki crowned the new champion by decision.
Norifumi Yamamoto, AKA "Kid Yamamoto", the team mate of Kikuchi, had complained to Shooto’s offices about an illegal head clash between Aoki, which caused a huge gash under his team mates eyebrow. His complaints were to no avail so "Kid" then pentad his frustration towards Head Shooto doctor Nakayama ,who was attending to the injured wounds on Kikuchi’s face.
Yamamoto is reported to of attacked the ring doctor verbally and physically. A statement was released on Tuesday by Shooto that all Killer Bee’s Gym members were Band from competing in any Shooto and affiliated events around the world. Also Yamamoto would be barred from attending any events as a spectator.
However, the day after the event Mr Nakayama had said there was no major altercation between himself and “The Kid”. Only Yamamoto had just pushed him lightly with his foot, not shoving him to the ground as was reported.
Moreover, Mr Nakayama stated the whole fiasco was blown outer proportion. A press conference was held for both Yamamoto and Nakayama to make it clear this wasn’t a major incident. With this Yamamoto apologized to Nakayama and to Shooto.
Shooto have since over turned the BAN to allow Yamamoto and The Killer Bee’s Gym to compete in further events.
