Sean Mckenning Wins World Title in Germany

Shawn McKenning claimed a version of the World Heavyweight title with a dominant performance at Gorilla Fight 2 at the Multihalle Herzogenried Park in Mannheim Germany. He defeated Thorsten "German Oak" Kronz in the main event of one of the biggest MMA events ever seen in Germany.

The fight was Shawn McKenning's first outside the UK. He beat his highly rated opponent with a Kimura in the first round. After the fight - he paid tribute to his team - Ultimate Force. He hopes that this victory will lead to him getting bigger fights in the UK. McKenning weighed in 10 kg lighter than he did for his last fight and looked lean at 120.

The “German Oak” is a former winner of the World Shidokan Open. In that competition, the participants have to fight in a triathlon, consisting of two rounds bare knuckle knock down Karate, two round of vicious Thai boxing and two rounds of MMA in each match. In interviews - Kronz has stated that he feels winning alone is not enough. He believes in entertaining the crowd and knocking people out. On the night, Mckenning just had too much for him. Once the fight went to the ground- there was only ever going to be one winner.

Team Ultimate Force is developing a name as the home of the UK’s top Heavyweights. As well as Sean, they have the British number one, Tengiz Tedoradze and UFC fighter Neil Wain on their roster. Neil Wain will make his UFC debut with a fight against the Dutch man Antoni Hardonk at UFC 85: Liddell vs Evans, which will be held at the 02 Arena in Greenwich, South East London on June 7th 2008.

A large crowd turned up at the Multihalle Herzogenried Park for the fifteen fight card. The success of this show suggests that his promotion will be a major player in the development of German MMA. Their next event will be in October.

Also on the card at the Multihalle was Jason Ball. The up and coming Doncaster fighter defeated the leading German Peter "Yamatodamashii" Angerer. Angerer tapped out due to strikes in the final seconds of the first round. Team Ultimate Force’s third representative, Ian "The Mongoose" Jones lost to Daniel Weichel by way of armbar.

A fourth British fighter, Leslee Ojugbana, travelled to Mannheim but did not fight. His opponent, the experienced campaigner Mario Stapel, pulled out of the contest at the last minute.

Leslee Ojugbana’s next fight will be at Ultimate Force: Punishment at the Doncaster Dome on the 3rd of May. His opponent will be none other than Jason Ball. The two rising stars will clash for the Ultimate Force British Welter Weight Title. Ian Jones will also be in title action. “The Mongoose” will take on Aidan "Snake Hips" Marron for the Ultimate Force British Light Weight belt. The Ultimate Force British Heavy Weight Title will also be on the line. Tengiz Tedoradze will aim to see off the challenge of “The Ox” Martin Thompson. Wayne Murray, Clifford Moor and Neil Malpas should also feature on the card.
