WEC’S Leonard Garcia Arrested

World Extreme Cagefighting featherweight contender Leonard Garcia was one of 13 people arrested Thursday in connection with an alleged drug trafficking ring in Lubbock, Texas. News of Garcia’s arrest was broken by KCBD News Channel 11.
Federal indictments allege that all who were arrested have conspired to sell cocaine as far back as 2001, according to the report. The United States District Attorney’s Office said about two kilograms of cocaine were seized during the operation, along with drug trafficking paraphernalia, firearms and money, the report said. According to the report, three of those arrested could face up to 40 years in prison and up to a $2 million fine; the others could face a life sentence and up to a $4 million fine.
Perhaps best known for his memorable match with Roger Huerta at UFC 68: The Uprising last April (Huerta later appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated), Garcia was expected to compete at World Extreme Cagefighting 34: Faber vs Pulver on Sunday, June 1 at the ARCO Arena in Sacramento, Calif.
Garcia recently made the move to 145 pounds after losing two of his three fights inside the UFC’s deep lightweight division. The former Ring of Fire lightweight champion returned to the WEC for the first time in seven years in February and blitzed Hiroyuki Takaya in 1:31 at World Extreme Cagefighting 32.
