Paul McVeigh Ready to be Big in Japan
Date submitted: 27 March 2008
Author: Mick Bower

Paul "Metabolic" McVeigh is getting ready for his biggest fight to date, but he is confident of continuing his run of victories.

In his last fight, he submitted BJJ Black Belt Anderson Pereira by way of Triangle choke at Cage Warriors: Enter The Rough House 4. On April 5th - the Glasgow based Irishman and his team mate James Doolan both fight on the Greatest Common Multiple: Cage Force 6 card in Tokyo.

In the first round of the Bantamweight tournament, the reigning Cagewarriors Champ will face the former Shooto Featherweight World Champion Masahiro Oishi.

McVeigh has been studying his opponent and is confident he will progress in the tournament. In an interview with the hurtbusiness.com podcast: McVeigh said:

“My opponent’s good, but I’m better than him. It’s good being able to see your guy and thinking: my striking’s better than his, my wrestling looks better than his and my jiu jitsu looks better than his. He’s 40 years old and my conditioning’s pretty good so, hopefully, that’s another advantage for us.”

Paul McVeigh has built a reputation as one of the top bantamweight in Europe, with a string of impressive performances. A lover of all things Japanese - the Irishman will be realizing an ambition when he enters a cage in the Land of the Rising Sun for the first time. He told hurtbusiness.com:

“It’s pretty much a goal I set myself yonks ago, when I was only one or two fights in. I watched Shooto a lot and thought it was really cool. Now, I’m getting to do it.”

If McVeigh wins, he will return to Japan in June for the semi final. The final is in September.
