Rashad Evans to Replace Shogun at UFC 85

Rashad Evans will face Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell in the main event of UFC 85 at London’s O2 Arena on June 7th.
MMAWeekly.com report that “The Ultimate Fighter” season 2 winner has agreed step in to take the fight after the withdrawal of Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. Shogun was forced to withdraw from the bout due to a ruptured ACL in his left knee, the same injury he had surgery on to repair last October after his UFC 76: Knockout fight with Forrest Griffin.
In his last fight, Rashad defeated Michael Bisping at UFC 78: Validation last November. He has put together a solid string of results since graduating from the reality show, with names such as Stephan Bonnar and Jason Lambert on his record. Rashad also fought out a controversial draw with Tito Ortiz at UFC 73: Stacked.
Although Rashad Evans is a solid fighter with good name recognition, he lacks the star quality that Shogun brought to the event. The UFC may need to put together a strong undercard if they hope to sell out the London show. |
