Record Broken Already for UFC 83: Serra vs St Pierre 2

The press conference was held on Monday Official confirming the 1st ever PPV on Canadian soil for the UFC.

With the announcement of the event comes two records for the UFC already, the first being that it is the fastest sellout for a PPV in UFC history as stated at the press conference that 13,000 tickets were sold in the presale & on Thursday that the event had sold out.

The current record for the capacity for an is some in the region of 19,000 and with the UFC sold out for this event selling in excess of 21,000 it has taken another record with it by bringing the biggest MMA promotion over to Canada.

Spear heading the campaign is Georges St Pierre as he headlines the bill when he takes on Matt Serra in a rematch where he was knockout in the first round of his first title defense back at UFC 69: Shootout, St Pierre seemingly looked to rule the ruin of the welterweight division as Anderson Silva has done with the Middleweights, but he came up against an unlikely speed bump in which everyone was left opened mouthed about what had occured.

St Pierre filled in on short notice to take the place of Serra to face Matt Hughes in a rubber match for the interim title where he did waht he did to Hughes in their second match and that is dominate Hughes in every aspect of the fight before gaining a submission victory in December 2007. Prior to that match it was known that the winner would face Serra once he had recovered and as the display from St Pierre was so impressive he has been rewarded with a title match in his hometown at the Bell Center, Motreal.

In the ways of how big the card is, its going to be big but not star studded like the upcoming UFC 82: Pride of a Champion, with the like of Rich "Ace" Franklin, Michael "The Count" Bisping & TUF winner Mac Danzig.

Franklin returns after his second defeat to the champion as he takes on one of Silva's conquests in Travis Lutter who had the opportunity to win the title respectively, but gave that up when he was unable to cut the 185lbs weight limit making the bout a non-title match. Never the less he was disposed of as easily as Franklin & now these two meet and will hopefully show some vast improvement which could give the champion reason to be scared.

Bisping comes to Canada and will want to make an example out of his opponent "Chainsaw" Charles McCarthy at his new home in the 185lbs Middleweight division. Bisping lost an even bout on the judges scorecards against fellow TUF winner Rashad Evans who is also a small competitor of the division at 205lbs, with that loss for Bisping at UFC 78: Validation, it put things into perspective that a drop in divisions might be ideal for the Englsihman to gain some gold in the UFC.

Mac Danzig returns to the octagon and on the televised PPV card for his debut. After securing the TUF title Mac Danzig instantly announced his drop also down the divisions to lightweight where at the moment there doesn't seem to be an unentertaining fight. Danzig takes on Canadian Mark Bocek who's only loss inside the octagon comes from top up & comer Frank Edgar, but got back on track with a win over Doug Evans at UFC 79: Nemesis.

A top card for the fans in attendance come April 19th in Montreal and with Canadians set to take the stage like Georges St Pierre, Jason MacDonald, Patrick Cote, Kalib Starnes, Sam Stout, Mark Bocek & Jonathan Goulet, it looks set to make a bang in Canada.
