Liddell & Rua Set to Go

Rumours were flying around that "The Iceman" Chuck Liddell after winning a war over Wanderlei Silva at UFC 79: Nemesis would be squaring off against Keith Jardine due to other possible guys being paired off, a man who gained victory via decision back at UFC 76: Knockout and the match was likely to take place in May or June (UK PPV).
Thats been squashed as Liddell has been targeted to be paired with Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, who on the same PPV as Jardine/Liddell faced Forrest Griffin & did the unthinkable and submitted the highly regarded fighter in Rua. From sources the contract has been drawn up and already signed by Rua and verbally by Liddell for the fight to take place in June when the UFC returns to the UK, despite Liddell having an issue with travelling and fighting in the UK. Rua had won twelve of his last thriteen bouts prior to arriving to the UFC to make waves & was set to beat Griffin and go on to fight Quinton Jackson in a championship bout to have the top 2 guys battle it out, but the scripts were changed again in the world of MMA and now have Grffin/Jackson colliding in the year and an intriguing & exciting fight between Liddell/Rua. |
