Veteran Chris Wilson Steps Up to the Plate

Akihiro Gono declared recently that he would be sidelined due to a hand injury for his second bout inside the octagon against the hot running streak of Jon Fitch which is now a staggering 14 out of his lasy 14 and 7 being inside the UFC which has sent him chasing a title match possibly at the end of the year or beginning of 2009.

Gono looked impressive against his tricky opponent Tamdan McCrory at UFC 78: Validation winning the bout via Arm lock and near enough instantly was put up against some top competition in Fitch.

Fitch has decemantled the likes of Brock Larson, Josh Burkman, Luigi Fioravanti, Kuniyoshi Hironaka, Roan Carneiro, Up and comer Thiago Alves and most recently TUF standout Diego Sanchez in which Fitch dominated and answered all doubters as a legitamate contender in the division.

Fitch looked likely to meet Karo Parisyan in an eliminator bout for a title matchup, but in a recent TAGG radio show with Parisyan he stated that he was never offered the fight with Fitch and that he would never turn down any fight and that Fitch will get his wish sometime in the future and if his camp keep moaning that it would be sooner rather than later. This is a feud likely to boil over in some part of 2008 with both throwing comments each others way that seem to be irritating both fighters.

Chris Wilson, who has now filled the gap of Gono hads a nice 13-3 MMA record and has appeared in noticible promotions as IFL, BodogFight, SportFight & is now set for the main stage against a top competitor in which if he were to defeat Fitch would become and instant hit destoying the win streak.
