IFL Crowns Five New Champs

The International Fight League crowned five new champions at their inaugural International Fight League: 2007 World Grand Prix Finals held in front of 5,731 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut .
Ryan Schultz knocked out previously undefeated 20-year-old Chris Horodecki capping an exciting night of action by winning the lightweight (155-lbs.) championship at the, Four other Championship belts also took place, including victories by Roy Nelson at heavyweight (265-lbs.), Wagnney Fabiano at featherweight (145-lbs.), Jay Hieron at welterweight (170-lbs.), and Matt Horwich at middleweight (185-lbs.).
The five Championships were the most ever contested on one night in North American MMA history. It is unclear if any such event will take place again. The IFL recently announced changes in the league’s format which suggests that belts will now be contested throughout the season. The IFL have also opened the door for fighters from other organisations to challenge for belts. |
