The clarification has finally come with regards to the title scene after Sean Sherk's appeal was successful as it was reduced to 6 months and allows him to fight from January after his last title defense against Hermes Franca at UFC 73: Stacked.

Sherk himself doesn’t feel satisfied by the outcome and is still looking to prove his innocents with possible legal action as a avenue to pursue and the news surfacing that he has been stripped of the title making the main event at UFC 80: Rapid Fire between BJ Penn & Joe "Daddy" Stevenson an official title bout for the vacant lightweight championship.

This is sure to put Sherk in a spin as the division is crammed to the rafters with talent, but a title match in 2008 for Sherk against the victor at UFC 80: Rapid Fire is also another signal that any title bout or contender match in the any division bar the middleweights because of it's depth from now on in the UFC is going to get the MMA fans on the edge of their seats.
