Buzz Berry Calls Out Kimbo Slice

Robert "Buzz" Berry has the blasted rumours that he is about to retire. Far from it. He wants to fight on, and he’s got Kevin Ferguson in his sights.

Berry came out of retirement to face the hot prospect Neil "Goliath" Grove at Cage Rage 24: Feel the Pain. Cage Rage favourite “Buzz” sent the crowd wild, dropping Grove with a punch early in the first round. He executed a game plan that exposed huge holes in the game of the highly touted Grove. “Buzz” got into positions he should have finished the fight from if he had not gassed. Berry was unable to come out for the second round. It was later revealed that he had been suffering from a severe chest infection, but fought because he did not want to disappoint the fans.

Anyone who thought that “Buzz” would be calling it a day was mistaken. He issued this tub thumping statement on the official Cage Rage website, cagerage.tv:

“Let’s face it; no one gave me a chance on Saturday. I was seen as just a stepping stone for the Goliath, but they all got it wrong as I gave the performance and fight of my life and had it not been for the chest cold that seemed to spring out of nowhere on Saturday morning, I may have pulled it off. Anyway, I just want to quash any rumours of my retirement, I doubt if Neil Grove will give me a rematch, but one guy that has caught my eye is Kimbo and if he wants a slice of me, well let’s get it on. See you in the cage”.

A match with Kimbo makes a lot of sense for everyone involved. Cage Rage now operate under the Elite XC banner. Kevin Ferguson is a star of the organisation. The street fighter became a cult hero thanks to the massive exposure of his back yard fights on youtube. Since taking up Mixed Martial Arts, he has been training with Bas Rutten. Elite XC boss Gary Shaw has talked about Kimbo in glowing terms. In a recent conference call, he said that he thought the street fighter could go on to be a champion.

Robert "Buzz" Berry is one of the most popular fighters in UK MMA. As he demonstrated on Saturday at Cage Rage 24: Feel the Pain, he has an all or nothing philosophy when it comes to fighting. He retired after losing to future UFC star Colin Robinson at Total Combat 19. Now he is back, he looks a perfect opponent for Kimbo. Robert "Buzz" Berry rarely goes past the first round. He has heavy hands, but has a tendency to leave himself open when throwing his bombs. A fight featuring him and Kevin Ferguson would be a slug fest.

Neil "Goliath" Grove has other plans. In his post fight interview, he called for a match against Cage Rage Heavyweight champion Tengiz Tedoradze. Many observers think that this may be a step too far for a relative novice like Grove.
