Frank Trigg: Make MMA Legal in New York

Frank Trigg wants Mixed Martial Arts to be legalized in New York. The MMA fighter and commentator feels so strongly about it, he’s written to the Governor; and he wants you to do the same thing. Trigg circulated a copy of the letter via a myspace bulletin. It begins with the plea:
“Legalize MMA/UFC in New York!! NY Gov Pataki signed legislation that outlawed MMA in 1997. Please write Eliot Spitzer”
The letter continues:
“Mixed martial arts was once deemed too vicious for decent society. The sport has modified its rules and is becoming one of the fastest growing sports in America.
This entire sport suffered a stone cold knockout just a few years ago. Back then, there were virtually no rules. Fighters could stomp, kick to the groin, there were no time limits, and no weight classes. Critics called it human cockfighting. It was barred in many states and banned on TV. The Ultimate Fighting Championship, or UFC adopted rules for the safety of the fighters and got 18 states to sanction the fights.
It is now on Spike TV, Fox Sport NET, PPV CBS its on ESPN and all their websites.
It is an outdated law and it is time to undo the Ban. NY need to get with the program. We have to travel to NJ. We need events at MSG. It is a huge money maker the Pru. Center was sold out. It is an outdated law and with all due respect it should be overturned. There are 1000's of MMA schools in NY (just Google it). |
