Bisping - Losing Not Such a Bad Thing

Michael Bisping suffered his first ever loss at UFC 78: Validation, but now he is more certain than ever that he is bound for glory. The day after his split decision loss against Rashad Evans, Bisping spoke to The Daily Star about his plans. He said:

“Victory would have been absolutely great – but perhaps losing was not such a bad thing after all. It may seem a strange thing for me to say after just losing my unbeaten record – but I am not actually that bothered because it had to happen some time. I think the fact I have been beaten will help my career, because the pressure on me to preserve that unbeaten record is now off my shoulders. Keeping that unbeaten record intact was playing with me mentally because I was always thinking I was overdue getting a loss. Now that pressure has gone. Everyone wins some and loses some and I am proud of myself that I did manage to clock up 15 straight wins. But, unlike boxing where preserving an unbeaten run always seems to be so important, it is completely different in the world of UFC. All the best guys in UFC have got a lot of losses on their record with Randy Couture losing more than 10.”

“When Rashad and I went into the Octagon, we both had 15 fights without defeat on our records. Someone had to lose and unfortunately it was me, even though it was a controversial decision with a lot of people thinking I should have won.”

“I pity the next guy I fight because I will be going out there with much more aggression now and finish him off in the first one or two rounds. I am still definitely going to be the world champion and have a belt around my waist – there is absolutely no doubt in my mind about that. I am just disappointed that I let my fans down by losing."
