Westfall Fights Severn at Lea County Event Center

Carlsbad's Jimmy Westfall will enter the ring against a legend in mixed martial arts fighting when he faces Dan "The Beast" Severn in a Universal Fight Promotions event Saturday at the Lea County Events Center in Hobbs.
Westfall has not stepped in the ring in almost two years but said he has been training for the match for three months and is excited to compete against Severn.
"I am tickled to death to compete against him," Westfall said.
Westfall added Severn is a great representation of what mixed martial arts fighting is all about.
"He is a pioneer of this sport and everybody looks up to him," Westfall said of Severn. "He represents the sport very well."
Westfall said the bout with Severn came about after another competitor Westfall was scheduled to face was injured and Severn was available to step in as an opponent for Westfall.
Severn is a member of the USA Wrestling Hall of Fame as well as the UFC Hall of Fame.
Five other Carlsbad area fighters are scheduled to fight at the event Saturday as well. Loving's Cori Gonzalez will take on "Grapple Girl" at the event.
