Three Title Fights at Cage Gladiators V
Date submitted: 30 August 2007
Author: Mick Bower

Cage Gladiators have released details of their next event. The Liverpool based promotion will present Cage Gladiators V: Fireworks on Sunday 4th Nov at the Liverpool Olympia. The impressive card includes three title fights.

Champion Tom Blackledge will defend his title against Colin Robinson in what promises to be an exciting Heavyweight clash. Tom Blackledge won the belt by stopping Przemyslaw Mysiala at Cage Gladiators 4: Prepare for Glory. The highly rated Pole was badly cut in a furious first round onslaught from Blackledge.

Colin Robinson is the reigning Total Combat and Strike and Submit Heavyweight champion. The UFR Fight Team member was invited to fight for the UFC when they visited Belfast. At UFC 72: Victory, Colin Robinson lost to Eddie Sanchez in the second round. Both men are renowned heavy hitters, so the Olympia crowd should expect an explosive affair.

The Cage Gladiators Featherweight belt will be up for grabs when Ronnie Mann faces Danny Batten. Danny Batten is widely considered to be Europe’s number one Featherweight. His most recent fight was a points defeat against Pride veteran Yoshiro Maeda at Pancrase: 2007 Rising Tour IV in Tokyo. His last domestic appearance was a hard fought decision victory over Kyotaro Nakao at Angrrr Management: Wired in March 2007. The submission specialist will have his work cut out against Mann. On his two previous visits to Cage Gladiators, Ronnie Mann has gone home with a win. In his most recent fight, Ronnie Mann lost a points decision to Robbie Olivier at Cage Rage 22: Hard as Hell.

The Welterweight title is vacant as a result of Jim Wallhead's decision to give up the belt. Other commitments meant that the Rough House fighter was unable make it to the Olympia. Paul Kelly will battle it out with Matthew Sellars for the right to succeed Wallhead. Paul Kelly won at Cage Gladiators 4: Prepare for Glory. His TKO of Jordan James has been one of the most controversial moments in UK Mixed Martial Arts this year. Top ref Marc Goddard stopped the fight in the second round when Paul Kelly had Jordan James in a crucifx. Although James was unable to defend himself from repeated strikes to the head, he reacted angrily to the stoppage and ignited a debate which rumbled on for weeks.

The November card also features the busy Welterweight Aidan Marron and Wolfslair submission ace Henrique Nogueira. Returning from Cage Gladiators 4: Prepare for Glory will be: Jay Keiron, Rob Sinclair, Tom Baxter and James Manning.

Cage Gladiators is establishing itself as one of the United Kingdom’s top Mixed Martial Arts Shows. They are based at the Liverpool Olympia, a stunning venue with a long history of staging top boxing and entertainment events. The shows are notable for the high production values and tremendous atmosphere. The organisation will hope to build on the success of Cage Gladiators 4: Prepare for Glory. An evening of top qualiy action was headlined by the outstanding fight between Jason Tan and Alexandre Izidro. Jason Tan got the nod from the judges after three closely fought rounds.
