Gary Turner: I'm a Martial Sportsman, Not an "Animal"

In response to certain sections of the mainstream media that continue to deny the legitimacy of MMA, Gary Turner had this to say to Fighters Magazine in the days leading up to his Cage Rage 22: Hard as Hell clash with Edson Drago:

"I get very frustrated at the public persona of MMA because it’s in a “scary” cage. The cage is actually a safer fighting environment than a ring; I’ve got scars on my top chin from catching it falling out of a ring!!

Cage fighters are portrayed as like dogs or animals fighting in a pit….you’d never hear a Judo player called an animal because they grapple. They are trained athletes, like Thai-boxers, Kick boxers and good old Western boxers. Why if you put the two together do you become an animal??…..you don’t! You become a total Martial Sportsman. One day hopefully the press will wake up to this!"
