Assuerio Silva is the New Heavyweight King of Pancrase

May 30 at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan, the heavyweight mixed martial arts fighter from Brazil Assuerio Silva dispatched Tatsuya Mizuno (2-2-0) at 2:08 of round two by TKO. Mizuno came out aggressively and closed the distance against the dreadlocked striker in the opening moments of the fight. Falling to the mat, the Japanese fighter fought to catch Silva in a variety of submission holds, but the Brazilian was too strong, and powered out of them all. Finally, Silva secured the mount position and hammered down punches until Mizuno was unconscious.
“A fight is a fight,” Silva said after the match. “I went in there and I couldn’t get my space right with the guy. I wanted to box with him, but he would exchange one punch and clinch, so I couldn’t get my muay thai (kickboxing) off. After that, the fight developed. The guy was good. He was able to get the fight to the second round. I was just picking my spots and when I hurt him, I poured it on and got rid of him.”
In other fights, Daiki Hata (7-3-2) defeated American Jameel Massouh (12-2-0) by TKO. Chute Boxe fighter Fabio Silva (8-2-0) weathered a hailstorm of brutal punches from Japanese fan favorite Ryo Kawamura (6-1-2) and knocked his opponent out midway through the second round.
