Quinton "Rampage" Jackson's purse for relieving Chuck Liddell of his UFC light-heavyweight title belt on the weekend was US$225,000, less than half of what The Iceman made.

Purse figures released by the Nevada State Athletic Commission on Tuesday show that Liddell's basic paycheque was $500,000. Liddell no doubt made considerably more through bonuses in his UFC contract and probably a cut of the lucrative pay-per-view, but the UFC does not disclose such information.

Jackson needed just one minute 53 seconds to win the title.

The main event accounted for $725,000 of the $920,500 purse money on Saturday night's mixed martial arts card at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, according to the Nevada commission. The remaining $195,500 was split among 16 fighters.

The UFC said the card produced a live gate of $4.3 million.

The next biggest UFC 71 purse was welterweight Karo Parisyan who earned $32,000 for his win over Josh Burkman. The loser got $7,000.

Toronto-born, Seattle-based middleweight Ivan Salaverry got $17,500 for losing to Terry Martin, who picked up $12,000.

Middleweight Kalib Starnes of Surrey, B.C., collected $10,000 for defeating Chris Leben. The Crippler also picked up $10,000. Both probably earned a little more after winning fight of the night honours.

Light-heavyweight Houston Alexander got $8,000 for knocking out Keith Jardine. The Dean of Mean received $7,000.

Liddell's basic purse last time out was $250,000, when he defeated Tito Ortiz at UFC 66 on Dec. 30. Ortiz made $210,000. UFC president Dana White said before the bout that both fighters would make record paydays, with the Las Vegas Review-Journal pegging Liddell's total paycheque for that fight as more than $1 million.

Jackson's purse for beating Marvin "The Beastman" Eastman at UFC 67 in February was $170,000.
