Cage Rage 21 Leaves Sky Furious - O'Donnell Rebuts...

Cage Rage Championships’ co-promoter Dave O’Donnell has issued a stern rebuttal to the news originally reported by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, that Sky Sports were unhappy with Cage Rage 21: Judgement Day.
According to his sources, Meltzer claims Cage Rage did not inform Sky that Bob Sapp had cancelled, saying, in the few weeks before the show, Cage Rage started to downplay Sapp’s role on the card. Sky Sports are said to be furious because they agreed to show the event live due to Sapp appearing and they had been promised extensive media appearances from Sapp that were not fulfilled.
Meltzer quotes a Sky executive as saying Cage Rage were “total clowns and liars” and said if it was his call, they would never air on Sky again.
However, O’Donnell rebutted this, telling Total MMA: “We’re in negotiations at the moment to do the next three events live. That’s how unhappy they were with us.” British ratings board BARB reports Cage Rage 21: Judgement Day had, on average, 80,000, viewers on Sky Sports 3, placing it as the seventh most watched show on the channel that week.
Discussing the rating, O’Donnell said the breakdown he received saw the event peak at 120,000 viewers, which is quite a promising figure and places it in the same ballpark as the viewing figures received by WWE on the same channel. |
