Dana White Granted Pro Boxer’s Licence

Nevada State Athletic Commission Regulators have approved UFC President Dana White for a one fight Professional Boxer’s Licence, and sanctioned the long awaited boxing match with former UFC Champion, Tito Ortiz.

Tito and Dana go way back and it is reported that the relationship between them is love-hate, to put it nicely. When Tito re-signed with the UFC, he demanded that a clause was put in to the contract where Dana White would promise to face him in the ring so they could settle a few old scores.

Interestingly it will not be the first time that the pair have battled. Tito and Dana were regular boxing sparring partners. The last time they fought was in 2001.

White commented “He’s a lot better than he was six years ago… "I’m a lot older than I was six years ago, so we’ll see."

Initially the NSAC board were dubious to let a 0-0-0 Pro Boxer face the former UFC Champion. However the board were reassured that when the pair sparred together in the old days, “White used to dominate Ortiz.” Dana produced evidence that he was medically fit. The board were also shown tapes of Dana White in action, and told of his fearsome reputation in the underground Boxercise scene.

White’s application was backed up by NSAC Executive Director Keith Kizer, who said he has seen White spar at least six times and, in his opinion, is certainly of a standard to take part in an exhibition boxing bout against a fighter who’s primary art is wrestling.

The panel voted 3-1 in favour of granting White his licence, and the bout has officially scheduled for March 24th at The UFC Training Center in Las Vegas.
