Pride 33’s Medical Suspensions

The Nevada State Athletic Commission holds rigorous medical examinations after each of their sanctioned events. Here the athletes are assessed for any long or short term injury resulting from their bout.
Fighters who have been injured are required to stay away from competition (and sometimes training) for the recommended amount of time or else face fines and a further suspension. These regulations stretch further than just Nevada, so a fighter taking part in any bout whilst under an NSAC medical suspension could face disciplinary action. This ruling means that Pride FC favourites Wanderlei Silva, Takanori Gomi, Alistair Overeem, Dan Henderson, Nick Diaz, Mac Danzig and Jason Ireland will be prohibited from taking part in Pride 34: Kamikaze which is scheduled for April 7th in Tokyo, Japan. Wanderlei Silva has been medically suspended until April 11th because of his KO loss to Dan Henderson. Henderson himself is out for a maximum of six months due to a broken hand. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Alistair Overeem are forbidden to compete until April 11th due to damage from their KO losses. Takanori Gomi is out because he picked up an injury whilst defending a submission attempt. Nick Diaz is out for a maximum of six months to give his broken Orbital (Eye Socket) Bone time to heal. Mac Danzig broke a thumb during his battle with Hayato Sakurai and is also out for six months. Jason Ireland and Travis Wiuff are also suspended due to ware and tare sustained during their respective fights. |
