The Fishman-Zuffa-DSE Paradigm

President of Pride USA, Ed Fishman, confirmed that he is pushing for Pride CEO Nobuyuki Sakakibara to sell his majority share in Pride Fighting Championships.
The multi-millionaire casino mogul disclosed that he hopes to finalise a deal with the ailing Japanese organisation today. Perhaps to add leverage to his proposition, Fishman added that if he doesn’t get the deal he wants, he will start his own MMA organisation for which he will poach the world’s top fighters as soon as their contracts allow. This would lead to Las Vegas becoming uncomfortably crammed with the world’s top MMA shows and more than likely an environment where only the strongest would survive. With this in mind the UFC’s parent company Zuffa (which is owned by Fishman’s rival Las Vegas casino owners Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta) are reported by Fishman to be the third cog in these negotiations. Fishman said about Zuffa possible ownership of Pride FC: “I don’t want this sport to become a monopoly. It will lead to lower paydays for the fighters.” |
