Lee Murray Update 1
Date submitted: 12 February 2007
Author: Lori Campbell And Matthew Bell
THE prime suspect in Britain's biggest-ever cash robbery could come back to this country to face trial - as a swap for a suspected suicide bomb plotter.

Lee Murray fled to Morocco after the £53million Securitas raid in Tonbridge, Kent, last February.

There is no extradition treaty between the UK and Morocco, so the cage fighter and British champion kickboxer looked set to avoid charges here. But this week prosecution officials held talks in London over exchanging Murray, 29, for suspected terrorist Mohamed Karbouzi.
Murray's solicitor Derek Parker said: "We know that during this meeting the Moroccan delegation requested the extradition of Karbouzi.
"I have been told by a legal source in Morocco that Lee is likely to be extradited, but we don't know when."

Karbouzi, who lives in London, is the alleged ringleader of a suicide plot that saw five bombs explode in Casablanca in 2003, killing 41 people and injuring more than 100. Spanish police also want to question him over the Madrid train bombings which killed 191 in 2004.
Morocco has tried and convicted Karbouzi, 44, of terrorism in his absence but under UK law he is still innocent.

If Karbouzi is sent to Morocco it would be an unprecedented move - Britain does not extradite people to countries with the death penalty.
A spokeswoman for the Crown Prosecution Service said: "All I can say is that an extradition request has been made to Morocco for Lee Murray."

Murray, who has a Morrocan father, was arrested there in June. He is awaiting trial for cocaine possession, membership of a criminal gang and illegal possession of foreign currency.

The trial of 11 people charged with robbery and kidnapping over the Tonbridge armed raid is due to start at the Old Bailey on April 16.
