Is Akiyama a Slippery Customer?

What happened to Saku? This is what the Japanese fans are asking themselves and each other after K-1: Premium Dynamite 2006.
Fans watching the show live could clearly see Kazushi Sakuraba asking for the Referee to stop and check his opponent Yoshihiro Akiyama for something. The Referee ignored Sakuraba and allowed Akiyama to continue and go on to win via Ground and Pound. After the fight Sakuraba complained vehemently to the Referee saying he believed that Akiyama’s leg felt slippery. The Referee touched Akiyama’s back a little but didn’t check any other part of his body. This is not the first time Akiyama has been accused of “Greasing” In fact, it is the third! An unprecedented number for a fighter. Another strange thing to note is that during the fight Akiyama’s right glove seemed bigger than the others used and that glove didn’t have the sponsor’s logo on it Now most of the Japanese fans believe that Akiyama cheated in this match and that K-1 should consider this matter more closely. Update...
We have just learnt from our Japanese Connection that leading Japanese News site sportsnavi reported that Sakuraba has officially complained to K-1 over the incident mentioned above. However only a few hours ago all news regarding this incident was taken down from the all the Japanese news sites. According to our Japanese Connection, the fan’s doubts have turned to conviction. K-1 are expected to hold a press conference on this matter very soon. |
